Kevin Dugas Wins Callaway Cup Final
Overall Series Winner for 2008

(Dartmouth, NS) September 17, 2008 - Kevin Dugas continued his outstanding play of this season with a victory in the Callaway Cup, modified Stableford event, played at Brightwood Golf & CC, Dartmouth, NS, on Wednesday 17 September. He was also the overall winner of the Callaway Cup series, which is part of the CPGA Atlantic Tour.

The modified Stableford competition saw Dugas, of the Links at Montague, Dartmouth, collect 35 points, edging out Scott Frizzell, also from the Links at Montague and Troy Howe of Fox Creek, Dieppe, NB, who collected 33 points each. Sean Joyce of the Canadian Golf Academy, Stratford, PEI finished in fourth spot with 32 points.

The modified Stableford system awarded 10 points for double eagle, 5 for eagle, 3 for birdie, 2 ....(September, 2008, Results) More...

Ganong CPGA Atlantic Tour Championship

(Moncton, NB) September 7, 2008 - Stu Musgrave of Moncton Golf & CC, Moncton, NB, shot an even par 70, in the opening round on Saturday, September 6 to win the rain-shortened CPGA Atlantic Tour Championship by one stroke. All play, scheduled for Sunday’s final round was cancelled, when heavy rains left the course in an unplayable condition.

Tied for second were Adam Chamberlain of Gowan Brae, Bathurst, NB; Kevin Dugas and Scott Frizzell, both of the Links at Montague, Dartmouth, NS. Fifth was Pat DeCoste of the Links at Penn Hills, Shubenacadie, NS.

The win was the fifth victory in this event for Musgrave. He had captured the event previously in a four year stretch 2002-2005.

Thirty-nine professionals participated in the annual event held at the challenging 6,200 yard, par 70 Moncton Golf & CC layout. The benefiting charity of the event was the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Greg Jones of Country Meadows Golf Club, Moncton, NB recorded a one-under par 69 to win the Ganong Invitational, the amateur event that was run in conjunction with the Tour Championship.

Dugas Wins CPGA Atlantic Assistants’
Championship By Five

(Truro, NS) August 26, 2008 - Kevin Dugas captured the CPGA Atlantic Assistant Professionals’ Championship with a five shot margin of victory. The professional from Links at Montague, Dartmouth, NS, fashioned rounds of 67-72 at Truro Golf Club for a 139 total.

Tied for second, at 144, were Steve LeBlanc of Westfield Golf &CC, Saint John, NB; Adam Chamberlain of Gowan Brae, Bathurst, NB and Craig Taylor, Green Gables GC, Cavendish, PEI. Troy Howe of Fox Creek, Dieppe, NB was fifth at 145.

The annual event, sponsored by TaylorMade, was played on August 25-26 at the 6,350 yard, par 71, Truro, NS layout.

Anthony Warren Wins PEI Open

(Charlottetown, PEI) August 17, 2008 - Amateur Anthony Warren, of Anderson's Creek, Stanley Bridge, PEI, was the winner of the PEI Open, played 16-17 August at Belvedere Golf & CC. Warren fashioned rounds of 72 and 71 for a one under par total of 143, over the 6,500 yard, par 72, Charlottetown, PEI layout.

Top professional in the event was Craig Taylor, of Green Gables, Cavendish, PEI, who shot a 72-72 total of 144, even par. Second among the professionals, with a 74-71=145 total, was Steve Toombs of Mactaquac Golf Club, Mactaquac, NB.

For the second week in a row there was a first time winner of the professional division on the CPGA Atlantic Tour. This week it was Craig Taylor. Last week Sean Joyce completed the task at the Stanhope Open.

Taylor, a former member of the Canadian Tour credited his winning result to putting well and staying calm.
