- A pair of 68's launched Kevin Dugas to victory in the Stanhope Open
and his fourth straight win on the CPGA Atlantic Tour this season. The
8-under par total of 136, by the Carman Creek, Fredericton professional,
bested the field of 37 professionals and 120 amateurs.
Three strokes back was runner-up Gordie Smith of
Oakfield, who recorded rounds of 70-69=139.
In a third place tie were Shaun Murphy of Lakeside,
70-70=140 and Shane Grinton of Links at Penn Hills, 73-67=140. Grinton
shot a closing back nine of 30 for a 67 total in the final round. John
Irwin of Summerside was fifth, on rounds of 73-68=141and tied for sixth
at 142 were Chris Irwin of Fox Meadow, 69-73 and John Anthony Langdale
of Rustico Resort, 71-71.
The annual event, sponsored by Tim Horton's and
presented by Golf Guide, was played 12-13 August at the popular and
challenging 6,600 yard, par 72 seaside layout in Stanhope, PEI.
Previously, Dugas had won the CPGA Atlantic Zone
Championship and Nova Scotia Open and, along with Mike Perry of
Stonehurst, captured team honors at the Canjet Terra Nova Charity
Pro-Am.
The Stanhope Open is the fourth event on the 2006 CPGA
Atlantic Tour. Major sponsors of the Tour are: Wilson Sports, Acushnet
