Dugas putting for birdie on 17th hole

(Truro, NS) July 29, 2007 - Kevin Dugas of Carman Creek, Fredericton, NB, topped the field by five strokes to capture the Nova Scotia Open. The annual event, presented by Fletcher Leisure Group, was held at Mountain Golf & CC, Truro, NS on 28 –29 July. Dugas recorded rounds of 66-69 for a two-day, seven under par total of 135.

Tim McCullum of Lynx at Kingswood, also in Fredericton, finished second on rounds of 69-71=140. Derek MacKinnon of Ken-Wo in New Minas, NS was second at 144 and Dave Bowlan of Avondale in Vernon River, PEI was 145.

“ I played really well in the opening round,” reported Dugas, who recorded six birdies and one bogey in shooting 66. “Today was interesting too, with the high humidity and the rain delay - makes it difficult to concentrate, but other than for two holes, I hit it pretty good.”

After a birdie on number three, Dugas hit an errant tee shot on four, which found a bad lie in the trees. “I hit a root and it stayed in. I moved the next shot about a foot before chipping out of trouble. Then I hit a five iron on the green and holed it for a bogey six.”

On ten he hit his drive under a tree, but with a good lie was able to hit a hybrid second to the 513-yard par 5. “It’s a good thing that I’m short – I can swing the club under the branches. I hit it really good, nice and low right at the green, I think it rolled through the greenside bunker, and ended up six feet from the hole. I made the putt for eagle. On eleven I went brain-dead. My chip shot hit a tree and I made another six. – but other than those two sixes, I hit the ball good. Overall I’m pleased with my effort ”
