Lindon Garron, of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, was
elected President of the Canadian Professional Golfers’ Association
(Canadian PGA) yesterday at the Association’s Annual General Meeting in
Thornhill, ON. Garron succeeds Warren Crosbie, Head Professional at Bayview
Golf and Country Club in Thornhill, ON.
“I have always believed that one must give
back to their Association,” stated Garron, who has been heavily involved
with the National Board of Directors as its Vice President and Past
President of the Atlantic Board. “My involvement with the Canadian PGA has
allowed me to continually learn about our industry and at the same time
contribute; I am honoured to be elected to the position of President and
wish to thank the Members of our Association for their trust and
confidence.”
Having served in many capacities throughout
his career, Garron has recently initiated St. Andrews Highlands, a golf and
residential development in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. Garron, a native of
Atlantic Canada, became a Member of the Canadian PGA in 1981 after spending
many years compiling government research.
Garron has been an outstanding representative
for the Canadian PGA and an active Member in the Association. Garron has
participated in various Canadian PGA committees throughout his career such
as the National Education Committee, the National Governance Committee, the
National Finance Committee, the National Selection Committee, while Chairing
the National Future Links Junior Golf Advisory Committee, National Marketing
Committee, National Membership and Education Committee and the Association
Review Committee. Garron has represented the Canadian PGA at various major
golf events throughout the world such as the Masters, the US Open
Championship, and the PGA Championship.
Garron is dedicated to the continued
development of his profession through improved education programs and the
continued development of the golf industry through various marketing
initiatives. As stated above, Garron is currently the Chairman of the
Canadian PGA Membership and Education Committee responsible for the
development of the recently proposed Professional Advancement and Career
Enhancement (PACE) Program aimed to enrich all Members of the Association.
Outside of Association activities, Garron was
the inaugural recipient of the Tourism Industry Association of Prince Edward
Island Tourism Technology and Innovation Award and speaker for a variety of
organizations including the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association,
Atlantic Golf Superintendents Association, E-Z-Go Textron Company the
National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) as well as other numerous
community organizations.
Highlights of Garron’s career include
receiving the Canadian PGA Atlantic Club Professional of the Year award, the
Canadian PGA National Merchandiser of the Year award in 1999, the Atlantic
Merchandiser of the Year award in the same year and serving as a past Coach
of Canada’s Junior Golf Team.
“Our Board of Directors, National Office and
Zone Staff are dedicated to providing the programs and level of service
which will give our Members the tools to be leaders in our industry,”
mentioned Garron.
“I am dedicated to enhance our membership
through educational means to uphold the standards in the ever changing golf
industry. I am honoured and excited to lead the Canadian PGA as its
President during this exciting time for our Association,” added Garron.
Also elected Officers of the Association at
the Annual General Meeting were Doug Wood (Vice-President), General Manager
and Chief Operating Officer of Country Hills Golf Club in Calgary, AB and
Glenn Cundari (Secretary), head teaching professional at the Cundari School
of Golf in North Bay, ON.
