(Charlottetown, PEI) August 17, 2008 - Amateur Anthony Warren, of Anderson's Creek, Stanley Bridge, PEI, was the winner of the PEI Open, played 16-17 August at Belvedere Golf & CC. Warren fashioned rounds of 72 and 71 for a one under par total of 143, over the 6,500 yard, par 72, Charlottetown, PEI layout.

Top professional in the event was Craig Taylor, of Green Gables, Cavendish, PEI, who shot a 72-72 total of 144, even par. Second among the professionals, with a 74-71=145 total, was Steve Toombs of Mactaquac Golf Club, Mactaquac, NB.

For the second week in a row there was a first time winner of the professional division on the CPGA Atlantic Tour. This week it was Craig Taylor. Last week Sean Joyce completed the task at the Stanhope Open.

Taylor, a former member of the Canadian Tour credited his winning result to putting well and staying calm.

“ I got off to a great start, in the final round, with birdies on 4,6 and 7 and, although I took a double bogey on the par five eighth, I just stayed calm and continued with my game plan. Nothing much shocks me about this game anymore. You’ve got to keep your emotions in check and go about your business, whether you make a two or a ten. With the wind and the wet conditions that can be a challenge, but I hit the ball decently and actually putted pretty good today.”
