- Troy Howe fashioned five birdies in his round to post a score of 72
and a three shot margin at the Callaway Cup Stroke Play event, held
September 21 at Amherst Golf Club.
The Moncton Golf & CC head professional rolled in
three birdies on his final six holes to best the 25 man field of CPGA
Atlantic golf professionals at the wonderfully conditioned, 6,450 yard,
par 71 Amherst, NS layout.
In second place was John Irwin from Miscouche, PEI
with 75.
Tied for third were Adam Chamberlain, Gowan Brae; Jeff
Wood, Lakeside; Elliott Isenor, Fox Harb’r; Steve LeBlanc, Westfield and
Steve Toombs, Mactaquac.
“It was a bit of an up and down day, but I was lucky
to roll in a few birdies, which made the difference,” related Howe
following his win. “The greens were slick, so you had to be careful, but
the course was in great condition.”
The Callaway Cup is a series of five one day events,
within the CPGA Atlantic Tour. Players were awarded points at each
event, based on their placing. The overall winner of the Callaway Cup
Series was John Irwin.

The Callaway Cup is a
series of five one day events, sponsored by Callaway Canada, and forms
part of the Canadian PGA Atlantic Tour.
The events include a
head pro – assistant pro team event at Abercrombie, a pro-pro team event
at Green Gables, an individual stroke play event at Riverside, a
Stableford event at Brightwood and an individual stroke play event at
Amherst. At each of these events professionals receive points, based on
their placing, for the Callaway Cup bonus purse at the end of the
series.
