Dumeah and Adams top the pro divisions at the Heather Wilbur Scholarship
Scramble
(Indian Mountain, NB) September
23, 2009
- Usually at a sporting event, the winners are not determined until
after the play. However, not so at this year’s Heather Wilbur
Scholarship Scramble held 22-23 September at the Country Meadows Golf
Course, Indian Mountain, NB.
Before a ball was struck, the tremendous showing of support from the
people and business in the community guaranteed a win for Junior Golfers
who are intent on furthering their education and golf careers. It
guaranteed a win for the Heather Wilbur Scholarship Fund that awards
annually the four $1000.00 scholarships and has awarded over $21,000.00
since its inception in 2004.
This year’s scramble included the Atlantic region’s senior
professional golfers and the Atlantic Ladies’ professional golfers
playing their own ball with the amateur teams on Tuesday then
competitive play the next day.
Richard Dumeah of Northumberland Links won the Senior Professional
section of the Heather Wilbur event by posting a 2 under par 70 on the
first day and holding on with a 77 the second day for a total of 147.
John Irwin of Miscouche, PEI shot a 74 the first round but came back
strong on day 2 with a 74 for a total of 148. Third spot was taken by
Doug Sullivan of Country Meadows with a total of 155.
On the Atlantic Ladies section of the tournament Kim Adams of Fox Harb’r
shot 79, 83 for total of 162, 8 strokes over second place finisher Tracy
Crooks’ of Brightwood who shot 81 and 89.
Of the amateur teams congratulations to the Midland Transport Team of
Sandy Comeau, Paul Hache, Terry Odishaw, Terry Beek and Mark Gould. This
team had a gross score of 54 and showed no favoritism by posting a 27 on
each nine. Their score included an eagle on the 345 yard, 13th hole: not
an unlucky number to them.
Doris Wilbur thanked the participants and sponsors in helping to
maintain one of Heather’s dreams of supporting junior golf. If there was
a dry eye or a throat not a little restricted during this part of the
ceremony, it would have to have been with a person with a rock heart.
A special day of fun, prizes, food and an atmosphere of goodwill was
made possible thanks to the participants, sponsors and volunteers.
Irving Group Moncton, which includes Majesta, Midland Transport and
Cavendish Farms, were the primary sponsors. Other major sponsors were
Acadia Toyota, Country Meadows Golf Club, and Moncton Chrysler
Superstore.
