(Moncton, NB) September 13, 2009
- Trevor Giggey continued his strong play this season with a three shot
victory at the CPGA Atlantic Tour Championship held at Moncton Golf &
CC.
Giggey of Fox Meadow Golf Club in Stratford, PEI took
control of the tournament with an opening round 66, then followed up
with a 67 for a 133 total over the 6,200 yard, par 70, Riverview, NB
layout.
Runner-up was Scott Frizzell of the Links of Montague,
Dartmouth, NS whose total of 136 included a tournament low round of 65
on Sunday.
Giggey, sporting a three shot lead heading into the
final round, made birdie on the first hole and finished the front nine
at 6 under par for the tournament. “I made another birdie on ten to get
to seven under, but soon ran into trouble with bogies on 11 and 12,” he
related, “but, I was able to steady the ship, made an eagle on the par-5
fifteenth and parred my way in. Except for 11 and 12 my game was solid
all weekend.”

The annual event, played September 12-13, sponsored by
Ganong and presented by TaylorMade – adidas attracted 41 CPGA
professionals from throughout Atlantic Canada.
Tied for third in the pro division were Stu Musgrave
of Moncton and Kevin Dugas of Links of Montague who each shot 138.
Low amateur was Dale Kinnie of Moncton Golf & CC with
a score of 72 – 67 = 139

Giggey has played very well all season and was
obviously thrilled to win the Tour Championship, after winning the
Atlantic Zone Championship at Oakfield in July.
“It feels really good to win those two tournaments in
the same season. I’m extremely happy with the way that I’ve been
playing.”
And the golf season is not over as far as he is
concerned.
“I’m looking forward to playing in a few more events
this fall, including the Elder’s Cup in Antigonish in October and the
CPGA Club Professional’s Championship at Port St. Lucie, Florida in
November.”
At the Florida event he will be joined by fellow
Atlantic professionals Troy Howe of Moncton GC, Richard Larwood of Red
Sands and Alex Jewers of Lost Creek, as they compete against their peers
from across the country.
