Grinton is 2004 CPGA Atlantic Assistant Pros Champion
(July 9) - Shane Grinton closed with a final round, one under
par 70 for a 133 total and a five-stroke victory at the annual CPGA Atlantic
Assistant Professionals Championship held at The Pines Resort. Tied in second
place at 138 were Derek MacKinnon of Ken-Wo (69) and Kevin Scott of Abercrombie
(72). In fourth spot with a closing 68, for a total of 140, was Jamie Pyke of
Antigonish. In fifth place at 142 was Graeme Burke of Lost Creek, with the best
closing round score of 67.
Grinton, assistant professional at Stanhope Golf & CC,
Stanhope, PEI, fired a new competitive course record 63, over the demanding
6,222 yard, par 71, course in the opening round.
Thirty-eight assistant professionals, from all four Atlantic
provinces, competed.
