Musgrave is Coors Light Tour Champion
Stu
Musgrave was in a class by himself. The Lingan Country Club professional pulled
away from the field early, and forged on to capture the Coors Light Maritime
Tour Championship, at Covered Bridge Golf & CC, by a resounding seven shots. The
annual fall classic was held on 14-15 September.
Musgrave found little problem in taming the challenging 6,800-yard, par-72
Hartland, N.B. layout. Following a brilliant 66 in the opening round, the
Sydney, N.S. professional held off any would be challengers by posting 69 on the
final day for a two round total of nine-under par 135. Tim McCullum of The
Algonquin, St. Andrew’s, N.B. and Kevin Dugas of Country Meadows, Indian
Mountain, N.B. tied for second spot at 142. McCullum fashioned rounds of 73-69
while Dugas matched with 70-72.
Jimmy Desjardins of the Canadian Golf Academy, Montague, PEI, was alone in
fourth place with 73-70=143. Chris Bunting of Glasgow Hills, New Glasgow, PEI
and Kyle Maguire tied for fifth at even par 144. Bunting shot 74-70, while
Maguire recorded 73 -71. Host professional Scott Hatchard, was tied in seventh
spot at 145 with Doug Sullivan of Country Meadows and Steve Toombs of Amherst
Golf Club. Sullivan’s closing round, of three-under par 69, matched the final
day’s best score.
The
tournament low amateur crown was won by Kevin Farmer of Campobello Golf Club,
Campobello, N.B. following a two-hole playoff over Steve Hansen of Aroostook
Valley, Four Falls, N.B. Both had finished regulation play locked at 147.
