Young Guns Retain Elders Cup
Atlantic Pro-Am Tour finale

Energetic and fearless youth was not to be denied their
shining moment as The Young Guns defeated The Old Guys 15 ½ to 14 ½ to retain
the Elders Cup, the final event on the Atlantic Pro-Am Tour, held under ideal
course and weather conditions at Antigonish Golf & CC on October 9-10.
The Young Guns, comprised of twelve CPGA Atlantic
professionals, 34 years and younger, displayed a consistency expected of their
elders as they posted early victories in the team matches on Saturday, then
survived a strong challenge by The Old Guys, in the singles matches, to capture
the cup and bragging rights until next fall. An equal number of professionals,
who are 35 years and older, made up The Old Guys.
The first day competition was two-man teams playing 9-holes
each of best ball, alternate shot and scramble. The Young Guns lead was 10 ½
points to 7 ½ after the team matches. In Sunday’s final round The Old Guys
finished strong, winning 7 of a possible 12 points in singles matches, but
eventually the lead was too much and The Young Guns held on for victory.
