Young Guns Hold Onto Elders Cup
2006 Atlantic Tour finale
 |
| Co-captains, Jason Lohnes (l) and Troy Howe raise the
Elders Cup for 'The Young Guns' again |
The Young Guns continued their dominance of the Elder's Cup, winning the
coveted year end event in convincing fashion, for a fifth straight year, with a
15 - 9 victory over The Old Guys. The annual competition was played in beautiful
fall weather on 7 - 8 October at the well conditioned and always hospitable
Antigonish Golf & CC, Antigonish, NS.
This annual team event matches twelve CPGA Atlantic professionals 34 years
and younger ( The Young Guns ) with an equal number of professionals, who are 35
years and older, ( The Old Guys ).
The competition is Ryder Cup format. Saturday morning matches are four ball,
while the afternoon competition are foursomes.
Twelve singles matches round things up on Sunday.
The Young Guns got off to a fast start taking the four-ball matches 4 -2 and
the foursomes 4 1/2 to 1 1/2, for a lead of 8 1/2 to 3 1/2 after the first day's
competition. In Sunday's singles matches The Old Guys struggled valiantly and
made their best showing, collecting 5 1/2 points, but it was not enough.
Since its birth in 2002, the Elder's Cup has been the property of The Young
Guns and they will continue their bragging rights for another year.
