One
man's misfortune was another man's opportunity. It all happened so fast for Tom
Carter (70-69-66-70), the winner of the $450,000 US, Samsung Canadian PGA
Championship at Diamond Back Golf Club in Richmond Hill, Ontario, 3-6 July 2003.
The Temple University alumni
headed into the final round two strokes back of leader Jason Bohn. Carter's
round included three birdies and two bogeys for a one-under-par 70. He rolled in
a 15-foot putt for birdie on 18 to pull within one shot of Bohn. Bohn then
bogeyed 18, forcing the playoff. Both players finished regulation play at
nine-under-par 275.
Stu Musgrave, head professional
at the Lingan Country Club, Sydney, N.S., finished in a tie for 65th place.
Musgrave fired rounds of 72-70-72-77 leaving him at 7 over par for the
tournament, which is part of the Nationwide Tour, the development circuit for
the PGA Tour.
The Samsung Canadian PGA
Championship is the second oldest professional golf championship in Canada and
boasts a legacy of legendary champions like Arnold Palmer, George Knudson, Lee
Trevino, Al Balding, Raymond Floyd, and Richard Zokol.
